Ford 1.0 Litre – Laps the Nürburgring Nordschleife circuit in 7:22

1 liter Ford Laps the Nurburgring in 7:22
Ford’s tiny but feisty 1.0-litre EcoBoost engine is the reason why a unique road-going Formula Ford race car has scored one of the fastest lap times ever at Germany’s famed Nürburgring Nordschleife circuit.

The one-of a-kind, road-legal version of the latest Formula Ford single-seat racer completed the lap in 7 minutes, 22 seconds to register the 11th fastest time ever on the circuit – a performance that puts it ahead of a host of supercars including the 600+ horsepower Lamborghini Aventador, Ferrari Enzo and Pagani Zonda .

“This little engine has people rubbing their eyes in disbelief,” said racing driver and course specialist Nick Tandy, 28, who completed the drive. “It’s simply astonishing that a 3-cylinder, one-litre engine can deliver that kind of performance.” Continue reading Ford 1.0 Litre – Laps the Nürburgring Nordschleife circuit in 7:22

Audi’s R8 E-Tron Nordschleife Record Run Video

Audi R8 E-Tron Nurburgring Rekord Run

Audi have released the cockpit video of the Audi R8 E-Tron Record lap of the Nordschleife for an 100% Electric car with an impressive time of 8:09 seconds.

Also on show in the car is the rear facing camera which was first used on the Le Mans R18 in place of the usual rear mirror due to the poor visibility out of the rear.

The R8 e-tron has two electric motors that produce 308 hp and 820 Nm of torque which is available throughout. The battery is a 49 kWh lithium-ion which powers the cars motors to accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 4.6 seconds, hit a limited top speed of 200 kph.

The cars limiter was removed for this run and reported to be at 250kph.

Without the sound of an engine and the only way I can explain it, is white noise coming from the wind and tyre squeel we might have found a new interrogation technique to be used at Guantanamo.

The Entry model will be powered by a V6 engine with about 300 HP, It is also likely that there will also be a hybrid version with three electric motors working in conjunction with a 3.5-litre V6 engine sharing technology with the upcoming NSX.

The new Acura MDX will be launched in late 2013 as a 2014 model.

First Audi overall victory in the Nürburgring 24 Hours

Erratic weather, an extreme pace, tough competition, bitter setbacks and a great triumph: Audi emerged from a genuine emotional roller-coaster ride as victor of the Nürburgring 24 Hours.

In the 40th running of the Eifel classic the brand recorded its first overall victory with the new Audi R8 LMS ultra. The German driver quartet Marc Basseng/Christopher Haase/Frank Stippler/Markus Winkelhock shared driving duties in the car entered by Audi Sport Team Phoenix. Christian Abt/Michael Ammermüller/Armin Hahne/Christian Mamerow from Team Mamerow Racing completed the one-two success.

The competition around the Nordschleife was regarded as a particularly brutal test of endurance this year. The pace of the eight different brands represented in the GT3 class was unusually high, many leading teams were struck by technical defects and numerous accidents whittled the field down still further. While the Audi GT3 race car, which is derived from a production line car, ran technically reliably for 24 hours, the Audi teams did not escape unscathed from accidents either.

In this way, the Audi R8 LMS ultra with start number ‘2’ driven by Christopher Mies at the time was hit by an opponent in the rain while leading. The repairs took 53 minutes and stole any chance of victory from him and his team mates Marcel Fässler and René Rast – they were fifth at the flag. In the night the car with number ‘4’ from Speedhunters Team WRT lost a huge amount of time after a collision with a competitor damaged the steering. The Belgian team finished 32nd. Team Raeder Motorsport held a promising fifth position after 17 hours of racing when Thomas Mutsch was unable to avoid a lapped car as it changed line. After hitting the guardrail any it was impossible to contemplate driving further in start number 9. The Audi race experience finished in 17th place with Christian Bollrath/Pierre Ehret/Peter Venn/Marco Werner. The sister car driven by Luca Cappellari/Florian Gruber/Warren Luff/Alexander Yoong retired due to damage caused in an accident.

Race result

4. Leinders/Palttala/Martin (BMW) – 1 lap

Opel – Vauxhall Junior or Adam Spyshots

Here are the latest spyshots from the Nordschleife industry pool at the Nurburgring in Germany.

Here is the 2013 Opel – Vauxhall junior still hiding under its camouflage.

We snapped the Adam on its first laps around the Nürburgring but as you all know it has been photographed in both other places in Germany as well as in Sweden during the winter. The Adam is based on a shorted version of the new platform that will also underpin the next generation Corsa and will be available at the dealers in spring 2013.

Production will begin at the Eisenach plant in Germany in late 2012, with sales beginning in 2013and will retail at around £9500.

Audi Etron Production Prototype Spyshots.

Well heres the new 2012 Audi Etron uncamouflaged and raising its profile at the Nurburgring in Germany.

Powering this car will be Four motors two each at the front and rear axles driving the wheels, making this a true quattro all-wheel drive.

Hinted to Produce around 313 horsepower, the two-seater accelerates from 0-62 mph in 4.8 seconds, and from 37-75 mph in 4.1 seconds.

The top speed is limited 124.27 mph, as the amount of energy required by the flux capacitor will likely result in time travel.

Also interestingly the images give us a hint of the detailing in this years facelifted R8.

We are expecting the official announcement and the reveal of the car at this years Frankfurt IAA.
