2012 BMW M5 – Testing at Nardo (Italy)

BMW have released another teaser video of the 2012 M5 undergoing high speed testing at the Nardò proving grounds in Italy.

These cars are now a production version of the M5 concept coming close to final form, a electronically dampening suspension and a twin-turbo 4.4-liter V8 with approximately 570 BHP and 720 Nm of torque.

Taking all this power to the rear wheels will be a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission and rumour has it an all-wheel drive could eventually be offered.

The car is expected to be shown at the Frankfurt Motor Show, but the video hints that it may show off production ready vcarinets off at M-Power in June.

2012 BMW M5 Testing at Miramas

At the proving grounds, the engineers push the new BMW M5 to its physical limits. Engine, suspension and transmission settings are checked under the most extreme conditions in order to fulfill the highest requirements in the series vehicle.

Precise steering, adaptive suspension control, the M Double Clutch Transmission that shifts without interruption of traction and the Active M Differential are tested on the handling course to ensure optimal interaction.

For maximal acceleration from a standing start, the BMW M5 has an improved launch control function. The torque of the high-revving V8 engine with M TwinPower Turbo technology is made tractable in the best possible way, delivering unrivaled acceleration.

A smokey burnout like this might not play a role in everyday driving, but it has to be part of the testing. This spectacular start leaves behind a trail of black rubber on the pavement and a smile on the face of the driver.

On the wet handling course, the engineers optimize the car’s controllability on its performance threshold. Thanks to the spontaneous, finely tuned response of the new M Twin-power Turbo V8 engine, the BMW M5 can be perfectly balanced with the gas pedal – whether in M Dynamic Mode of with deactivated DSC.

The BMW M5 isn’t just a high-performance sports car; on the proving grounds in Miramas it also proves its suitability for daily driving. On extreme downhill sections and winding roads, the sequential and automatic transmissions are tested for flawless function.

So the Wolf of the Nurburgring is looking impressive BMW hint at the VMAX of around 308 kph (191mph) and also hint at the lack of rollback on the E60 M5.

BMW Unscripted M5 – Sabine Schmitz (fastest taxi driver in the world)

Sabine Scmitz explaining the joy of being part of the Legendary v10 M5.

This video is part of a new marketing project by BMW, called BMW Unscripted, producing a series of films that feature drivers and their experiences with BMW vehicles.

BMW produced a series of short films a few years back starring Clive Owen which were story-based. This current series is doing something different but still trying to stay away from the staleness of 30 second ad spots. It’s a strategy for communicating brand values that tries to exploit the potential of web video marketing by producing short films that enthusiasts can enjoy.

Wiesmann MF5 GT Replacement Spotted Spyshots

After we fetched you the news back in July that BMW was ceasing production of the M5 and its formula 1 inspired engine, it left us wondering about the Wiesmann GT MF5.

But fear not the German roadster manufacturer has turned up today with a prototype to test the BMW V8 Twin Turbo as used in the X6 and the X5 M powered cars, and of course the upcoming M5/M6 in 2011.

The car was sporting larger wider wheels than its predecessor 325x25x20 on the rear and 285x30x20 on the fronts and was currently fitted with Michelin Pilot Sports.

The manufacturing process hasn’t changed from the previous model but we expect it to way slightly less than the current model due to the new engine.

Expect a saving of about 100kg making it weigh in at an estimated 1295kg and this should enable the car to exceed 200mph.

BMW M5 Prototype testing at the Nurburgring

The 2011 F10 BMW M5 is set to become one of the most sought after cars of 2011. The intensive track testing is a tribute to BMWs commitment to making the M5 the best in class albeit missing the opportunity to turbo charge the now discontinued E60 V10.

The M5 is set to make its public unvailing at the 2011 Frankfurt motorshow after a Teaser at the Geneva Show earlier in 2011.

The 4.4 v8 twin turbo as used in the current x6m will be tuned to around the 550bhp but these figures havent been finalised yet.

G-Power M5 Hurricane RR Worlds Fastest Saloon / Sedan 231mph-371km/h

After we spotted the G-Power twin supercharged BMW M5 at the Nordschleife in Germany, The 800 hp v10 Powered Saloon is now the world’s fastest reaching a whopping 231mph confirmed by GPS.

To achieve this extreme performance, the twin supercharger system of the high-revving V10 has been redesigned. The two superchargers named ASA T1-313 have been replaced by larger ASA T1-316 units. They are both driven by a belt and do provide each cylinder bank with “watercooled” supercharged air. This means more air volume is up by 25 percent and is able to generate a theoretical power output of more than 900 hp.

The pre-compressed air from the superchargers is cooled for a maximum power output. A complicated aluminium casting – painted in G-POWER orange – replaces the standard air box on top of the engine, and its direct inlet is responsible for the spontaneous response characteristics which give the G-POWER motor its incomparable response and also much more torque.

The inner workings of the 10-cylinder, four-valve engine are optimised by light, precisely balanced MAHLE high-performance forged pistons with lower compression and increased mechanical strength. As the standard connecting rods and piston pins were equally not up to the considerably increased forces, here too, recourse was had to special parts.

An optimized mapping of the engine electronics also contributes to the increased power output of 800 hp / 588 kW, available between 7,500 and 8,000 rpm. The engine delivers its peak of torque of 800 Nm at 5,000 rpm.

In addition to the most powerful BMW engine ever being fitted to a street-legal BMW M5 a new aerodynamic for maximum efficiency was key. The HURRICANE RR is equipped with the G-POWER “HIGHLINE” body kit. In addition to provide the necessary downforce the body kit is also designed to provide significant more air flow to cool the engine. The body kit consists of front and rear skirts and spoilers, doors render and the rear spoiler.

Two tons of weight and a top speed of 372.1 km/h naturally require extreme demands on the tires, being fitted on special G-POWER forged wheels. Our technology partner Michelin provided high-performance Pilot Sport tires in the dimensions 255/35 ZR 19 at the front axle and 305/30 ZR 19 at the rear axle for this reason. For every day use the G-POWER HURRICANE RR runs on 20-inch Silverstone CLUBSPORT wheels with the dimensions 245/35 ZR 20 and 285/30 ZR 20 front and rear.

Well done G-Power on this massive exploitation of the mighty BMW v10 we wont see the F10 M5 reaching these figures.
