McLaren P1 XP2R – Spotted Lapping the Nürburgring

McLaren P1 XP2R

McLaren Automotive seem to have fetched something rather special to the Nürburgring as it was doing some very fast laps of Nordschleife industry pool

Rumour has it this is a more powerful version of its recently revealed P1 which is possibly just that a rumour.

The R designates the fact that this is a revised internal validation vehicle, possible testing new components that have failed the extensive test and validation carried out on the various prototypes.

The McLaren P1™ is currently in the final development stages, ahead of first deliveries later this year, and will be a rare sight when production begins, with only 375 examples being built. Few therefore will ever have the opportunity to experience the mid-mounted 3.8-litre twin-turbo V8 petrol engine and highly effective electric motor, which generate 916PS.

This will ensure that the P1 will be going head to head with the Ferrari LaFerrari 950hp and both cars are likely to have a 0-60 time of around 2.6 seconds and will spark and combust all the way to an artificially limited 217mph.

The base price of the P1 is £866,000 which is a saving of around 144k cheaper than the hyper LaFerrari.
