Aston Martin racing driver in fatal accident at Nürburgring

The third round of the BF Goodrich VLN Endurance Championship had to be prematurely terminated due to a horrific accident involving multiple vehicles on lap 22. After the collision with two of his rivals, the Aston Martin GT4 driven by Leo Lowenstein overturned and then struck a guardrail, the rear of the Aston Martin was so badly damaged that it caught fire.

The organizers suspended the four-hour race immediately and launched an extensive rescue. But the 43 year-old driver, who could not get out of the car died at the accident site.
