BMW has revealed the i8 in production for the first time at IAA in Frankfurt, the 1,490 kg (3,284 lbs) plug-in hybrid adopts a 2+2 configuration and boasts a carbon fiber reinforced plastic passenger cell and an aluminium frame for the combustion engine and electric motor, the battery pack and the suspension.
The doors are made up of a CFRP inner structure and an aluminium outer skin and weigh 50 per cent less than a conventional construction. The intelligent construction of the magnesium instrument panel support brings a weight saving of around 30 per cent compared with the BMW 6 Series, for example. In addition, the high structural rigidity of the magnesium support structure The revolutionary character of the BMW i8 is emphasised by a further innovation: the use of an internal combustion engine which is making its debut in this model.
The BMW i8 is the first BMW production model to be powered by a three-cylinder petrol engine.
This highly turbocharged unit is equipped with latest-generation BMW TwinPower Turbo technology. It is exceptionally compact and develops maximum power of 170 kW/231 hp from its 1.5-litre displacement. The resulting specific output of 113 kW/154 hp per litre of displacement is on a par with high-performance sports car engines and is the highest of any engine produced by the BMW Group.
The 458 Speciale is the latest product of Ferrari’s core philosophy of extreme technological innovation and research which, in this instance, has yielded powertrain, aerodynamics and vehicle dynamics advances that transform the already exceptional 458 Italia into a car genuinely worthy of the “Speciale” moniker. The result is a completely new, uncompromising, streamlined sports car concept. Many of the sophisticated solutions being applied for the very first time to an in-range car in the 458 Speciale, including its advanced active aerodynamics, will become a standard feature of all new Ferraris in the future. Flanked in the Maranello marque’s range by the multi-award-winning 458 Italia and 458 Spider, the new mid-rear-engined V8 berlinetta was designed to boost both performance and driving emotion to unprecedented levels, yet simultaneously guarantee smooth, effortless control in all kinds of situations. Having lavished meticulous attention on the power unit that was named “Best Performance Engine” at the International Engine of the Year Awards for two consecutive years, Ferrari has now built its most powerful naturally aspirated V8 ever (605 cv) with an extraordinary specific power output of 135 cv/l , the highest ever achieved by a road-going naturally aspirated engine. Thanks to an equally exceptional weight/power ratio of just 2.13 kg/cv, the 458 Speciale can sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in a mere 3.0″ (0-200 km/h in 9.1″) and also clocked a lap time of just 1’23″5 at the Fiorano Circuit.
Here are the latest spyshots of the 2014/15 Civic Type-R, and it looks like the car is to be powered by a turbo for the first time.
This is possibly to improve on emissions which ultimately led to the previous models being chopped, Powering the car is a bit of a mystery but we can assure you that Honda mean business with a 300hp+ serious hatch which will be powered by a new 2.2 liter engine.
Here is a great video of a serious looking Fernando Alonso you get to see the Spaniard concentrating with a little sweat on his brow while he tames the Ferrari LaFerrari around the Scuderia’s Fiorano test track, It looks like the car will be as demanding at it Enzo heritage.
The LaFerrari also known as the F70 is powered by mid rear mounted V12 Internal Combustion Engine has a 6.3 liter capacity producing 800 PS, providing the highest power output of any Ferrari whilst decreasing fuel consumption by 40 percent.
