Back in 2009 we saw the first glimpse of the “p11” aka the Mclaren F1 replacement the “mp4-12c“.
On wednesday the 18th of March Mclaren HQ in Woking opened its door to the UK motoring press to reveal the inner workings of the new Company McLaren Automotive.
You can watch the recording of the press conference here at the source.
The 12C is powered by a bespoke McLaren ‘M838T’ 3.8 litre, V8 twin-turbo engine producing around 600bhp, driving through a McLaren seven speed Seamless Shift dual clutch gearbox (SSG). It is targeting not only new standards for power and performance in its sector, but also class-leading fuel economy and CO2 emissions; supported by McLaren’s experience of active aerodynamics to aid cooling, grip, handling and road holding.
The heart of the new car is the Carbon MonoCell. McLaren pioneered the use of carbon composite construction in the 1981 Formula 1 MP4/1 model and set a trend that all Formula one teams have followed.
The Highlights of the Press conference:-
The Creation of more than 300 new jobs and a new production center the MPC.
A very strong safety cell: The MonoCell offers greater occupant safety. It acts as a safety survival cell, as it does for a Formula 1 car and passed not one but three 50km Crash tests and the Carbon MonoCell remained intact.
The Launch of 35 new Dealerships worldwide and will grow to around the 200 mark.
Every dealership before they sell a 12c will have to stock the full car in parts to ensure the owner experience prompt and F1 esque service visits.
The heart of the Iris System is powered by a Dual Intel Processors running at 1.6ghz and will run a Windows platform.
Pre-Cog system where the user can “focus” the gear before they engage to ensure lightening quick changes and also to prepare for the waves of torque.
