McLaren Automotive has released the final numbers, images and information relating to its phenomenal McLaren P1™ ahead of a global reveal in just a few days at the 83rd International Geneva Motor Show.
The race-inspired Instant Power Assist System (IPAS) gives the McLaren P1™ astonishing performance. Zero to 100km/h will take less than 3 seconds, zero to 200 km/h under 7 seconds, and zero to 300 km/h will be achieved in no more than 17 seconds. Putting that into perspective, that’s 5 seconds faster than the legendary McLaren F1 road car. Top speed is electronically limited to 350 km/h. Continue reading McLaren P1 officially revealed→
Envy is one word for the exclusive access Chris gets to the motor industry, but Pistonspy tips his hat on some very sensible and technical details he manages to extort from the engineers at Porsche.
He gets the information that the calibration unit for the drive train comes from the 991 variant of the Porsche GT3, and also manages to take the prototype version, albeit riding shotgun on to the streets around the Nordschleife in Germany.
Also discussed is the range of the electric mode which is hinted with a range of 150km in between charges, then the chassis calibration engineer turns the car in to race mode and basically turns Chris interest in to the combustion engine.
Anyway enjoy the video and celebrate with Porsche the incredible laptime of 7:14 of the infamous circuit in the 918, which I remind you is still not the final calibrated production variant of the new Porsche’s supercar.
McLaren Automotive have revealed in Paris its next generation ultimate supercar – the McLaren P1 – which takes much of its technological and spiritual inspiration from the company’s Racing division. The McLaren P1 has one simple goal: to be the best driver’s car in the world on road and track and to follow on from the cult McLaren F1.
Designed from the outset to gain aerodynamic superiority and spent many hours in a wind tunnel and using CFD (computational fluid dynamics) aerodynamic modelling – just like a Formula One car, something McLaren are market leaders in.
The McLaren P1 has gained higher levels of downforce than any current road car – 600kg is achieved well below maximum speed. That is approximately five times as much downforce as a McLaren 12C. Its margin over most other high performance supercars is even greater. The McLaren P1’s downforce is similar to current sports racing cars, including the 12C GT3 racer. This is achieved by a large adjustable ‘active’ rear wing adjusts automatically to boost downforce and optimise aerodynamics along with the teardrop cabin shape also means that a lot of the air travels along the cabin to the rear wing . Unveiled at the 2004 Geneva motor show, it was a very exclusive mid-engine model originally intended to be hand-built in just 25 units, all of which sold-out before its launch. Due to the MC12’s considerable success, immediately followed up with numerous victories in the FIA’s GT1 class, a second batch of 25 cars was built in 2005.
Designed for high level road use, the MC12 exceeded 330 kmh at full throttle, sprinting from 0 to 100 kmh in just 3.8 seconds. The MC12 benefited from the Ferrari-Maserati Group’s most advanced technologies and competition experience. Its naturally aspirated 6 litre V12 punched out 465 kW at 7500 rpm, yet offered absolutely excellent drivability, remaining exceptionally lively and fluid even at low engine speeds. An aluminium crankcase, titanium con-rods and extremely efficient fourvalve cylinder heads were all part of its design. Four gear-driven overhead camshafts provided perfect timing control. The unit was mated to Maserati’s proven six-speed Cambiocorsa transmission, offering computerised gear selection. In Race mode, the system was mapped to deliver much faster gear changes and to activate the ASR. Continue reading Maserati MC12 – Spotted Photogallery→
Its good to see a car go full circle and be a success for a British Automotive Company from the early prototype spyshots taken at the Nurburgring and now Aston Martin stating all 77 units of the hypercar has now been sold.
Is it time for a new edition Aston perhaps unadventurously called the Two-77????
The recently spied 2014 Maserati Quattroporte is recieving two new Ferrari prepped engines as part of an partnership with Fiat.
The all new saloon will be offered with a 420 hp Supercharged V 6 and a 520 hp Twin turbo V8.
Both powerunits will be available with a ZF-sourced eight-speed servo actuated paddleshift transmission, Rumour has it the manual is to be discontinued.
We expect that also due to the weight reduction and a hinted reduction of around 200kg the 0-60 time on both cars will be under 5 seconds.
Expect to see a preview at the 2013 Detroit MotorShow.
The new flagship prototype of the next Chapter of BMW history has been spotted undergoing winter testing in Sweden along with leaking fluids hope hes got Floor Mats from CarID.
Originally unveiled as the Vision concept in 2009 Frankfurt Motor Show as the BMW Vision EfficientDynamics concept and still wearing this moniker.
There is not a lot of details to grasp on the performancce of the the electric car and we expect this to be around the 200bhp, but due to the maximum power will be available immediately from the electric motors and expect to humm along to 62mph in around 5.0 seconds.
We expect a mid mounted diesel hybrid to be released first quarter 2013 and the full electric following.
Lamborghini are not satisfied in pulling the shroud off the Aventador LP700-4 at the Geneva Motor Show, now there has been a video release/leak from the Italian bull-works driving in the winter landscape in Sweden.
With a curb weight of just 1575 kg (3,472 pounds), that’s all good for a 0 to 100 km/h sprint time of 2.9 seconds, as we had previously reported. Top speed is 350 km/h (217 mph).
The engine is coupled to a 7-speed independent shift rod transmission with shift times of just 50 milliseconds. The model also features a Haldex all-wheel drive system.
Expect another video or two before the Geneva Motorshow in two weeks time.
