Well the internet rumor mill is alive and kicking touting that the McLaren P1 has lapped the Nürburgring in 7:04 but no official release from McLaren in apparent dismay that they haven’t broken the 7 minute barrier.
Although this is 5 seconds shy of Ron Dennis quote at the Geneva Motorshow that it would break the 7 minute barrier, which would make it the fastest street-legal production car ever to round the famous German circuit. The Black Falcon team of Bernd Schneider, Sean Edward/Jeroen Bleekemolen/Nicki Thiim have won the 2013 Nurburgring 24 Hours with a incredibly tight margin of two minutes 39 seconds. It was the first ever win at the event for Mercedes after many races at the VLN improved the handling on the infamous circuit.
Heavy rain forced race control during the night to interrupt the race for more than nine hours. Numerous accidents caused a treacherous mix of oil, mud and rain water on the track.
Coming in second place was the BMW Z4 GT3 Driven by Maxime Martin (BE) who brought the number 25 BMW Sports Trophy Team car home. As well as Martin, Yelmer Buurman (NL), Andrea Piccini (IT) and Richard Göransson (SE) were also in action over the course of the eventful race.
Dodge Viper ACR sets new Nürburgring lap time of 7:12 after we earlier reported that they was lapping the Nurburgring.
The 2010 Dodge Viper ACR set a new major automaker production car record run of the Nordschleife in just 7:12.
In 2008 the Dodge Viper ACR went to the Ring and established a major automaker production car one lap record time of 7:22.1 on the Nürburgring, and now after 1 day and a few hours extra of lap time they have shaved 10 seconds of the time.
The ACR X also managed a 7:03 but as its a track only car it doesn’t stand and was also sporting full slicks which is a testament of the achievement the guys at Tomball Dodge and Vulkan Racing have achieved.
