Lotus Motorsport announces the Evora Cup race car together with a European points based race series for 2010. The race car will made its first public appearance at the Autosport International racing car show in Birmingham, UK on the 14th January 2010.

The Lotus Evora is a highly acclaimed road car that incorporates many race car elements to give it incredible handling and performance. The Evora has a mid-engine layout, high-tech, super-stiff extruded and bonded aluminium chassis and double wishbone suspension all round. These elements mean that it is a relatively easy progression from the production car to a competitive race car.

The Evora Cup race car has been developed by Lotus and is designed to offer a level of performance that would make it competitive in GT4. The race car will be eligible to compete in a number of different national and international series, with options for endurance racing and sprint racing.

The Evora Cup show car is finished in Epsom Green with a Solar Yellow stripe down the centre. It is an evocative sports car that will offer a great platform to race in high level motor sport.

At the heart of the Evora Cup race car is a new 4 litre V6 race engine that boasts more than 400 PS and a dry sump system for the high cornering forces encountered during racing. The mid mounted engine is mated to a Cima six speed sequential paddle shift dog gearbox, which is designed for international motor sport.

The efficient Evora body has received a Dallara developed aero package, which includes a number of updated carbon fibre parts and significantly improves performance for racing applications, giving greater downforce and improved cooling.

“Performance through light weight” is a Lotus philosophy and the Evora Cup race car has been pared down to less than 1200 kg, which translates into a reduction of more than 200 kgs over the production car. This weight saving has been achieved by using high performance parts and materials and deleting parts not required for motor sport

The Evora Cup race car will come with adjustable motor sport dampers and six piston front brake callipers, with two piece aluminium belled brake discs. The car has an electrical cut off, fire extinguisher, traction control and is designed to have all the relevant FIA compatible motor sport equipment to race.

The 2010 Evora Cup series will be a European event with points initially being awarded to competitors for entering races with the points values awarded relative to Evora finishing positions. There will be five points for attending any eligible national race meeting with five points awarded for the first Evora to finish down to one point for the fifth.

The series will then culminate with two Lotus Festivals, with provisional dates for Donington Park in the UK (16th & 17th October 2010) and the second at Vallelunga in Italy (21st and 22nd November 2010). All the competitors from around Europe will be invited to race at these festivals and there will be double points on offer. The championship winner will be the driver who accrues the most number of points from a maximum of 6 races over the 2010 season.

A prize fund of at least €100,000 will be available.
Drivers are invited to register their interest at the Lotus Evora Cup website: http://www.lotusevoracup.com
The Evora Cup race car will go on sale at £120,000 excluding taxes.

Nurburgring: motorsport is paramount

In all facets of motor sport will continue to play the lead role at the Nurburgring. Fans and drivers, organizers and corporate clients will be intensively involved in the further development. Service, quality and customer needs are in the focus. First step: no increase in prices for the tourists traveling on the Nordschleife and the Grand Prix circuit.

The plan is to move the Nürburgring holding a majority of state-owned company to a private operator under the direction of the Lindner Group, which currently include two hotels and a resort village at the Nurburgring operates. A memorandum of understanding was signed on 2 December during a press conference, the State Chancellery of Rhineland-Palatinate presented.

The focus of the Nürburgring-operation will continue to be the motor – in all its forms. To this end, has expressed its commitment to the new CEO of the Nürburgring GmbH, Hans-Joachim Koch

The objectives and actions of the management led by Hans-Joachim Koch are clearly defined here and will be implemented in stages from the beginning of 2010:

· No price increase in 2010 for the tourist rides
· new billing models with organizers and co-marketing
· balanced mix of professional and popular, fan and corporate events
· No tying, but attractive packages. each retailer can use the
· Integration of regional businesses
· Every day tourist trips (Nordschleife and / or Grand Prix circuit)

Behind this is the following basic strategic orientation: The Nürburgring is, even after the expansion is no “leisure park with a race track.” But the Nurburgring is and remains the most coveted and most legendary racetrack in the world, has the post-enlargement this year through a globally unique infrastructure. This is also available for motorsports and for the tourist market. Motorsport is supported by a wide umgang program more attractive to drivers, teams, fans and organizers. The conditions for this are now created. And for the tourist market that is the attraction of “Destination Nürburgring race course, the now more than 82-year-old myth from which one can only experience in the field. Even under the new leadership of the spirit of the Nürburgring is kept alive and a wider circle of visitors erschlossen. This is true not only for major motor sport events. The very popular sport, and not least the many passionate riders on the tourists have made the Nurburgring Nordschleife with what he is today. In this area we will be together for the future with organizers, clubs and associations in full throttle.

Hans-Joachim Koch is particularly the dialogue with different stakeholders is important: “It is only natural that a change in management and short-term uncertainty brings. Our task now is to listen exactly what wishes and ideas are also concerns brought to us and then implement these together or excluded. We are Europe’s number 1 motorsports destination In order to continue that way, we will continue along the path to improve the living quality, offering the combination of old and new offerings, both organizers and visitors added value. ”

At this year’s Essen Motor Show, the racing program as early as 2010, with representatives of the ADAC and ADAC North Rhine was presented. The cooperation will extend far beyond the current rent of the circuit. Joint sales and marketing activities are included as well as transparent accounting models and revenue models that enable an economic activity for all partners. Race organizers and literally sit in the same boat.

“That’s why for example is those already planned and announced increase of prices back rides to tourists, “said Hans-Joachim Koch. “The myth reveals Nurburgring best used as driver or passenger on the Nordschleife. We will continue to make this experience a large circle of fans at a reasonable price. And why raise the prices have improved, if not yet offer service quality? Safety comes first and must be continuously optimized, but that is clearly understood and to always-investment funds are available. As long as weather conditions allow, to the so-called Touristenfahrten reliably held every day of the year, either on the Nordschleife and the Grand Prix circuit. ”

The additional revenue for this year already sold Nordschleife tickets for 2010 will be refunded to the purchasers in the form of credits on a ring ° card, it will be sent in the next few days.

Performance will be 0-60mph in 4.5 seconds. It will be targeted to be in direct competition with the BMW’s mighty v8 M3

Engine will output 450bhp and will be a 4.2-litre twin-turbo V8, Compared to the 414bhp 4.0-litre V8-engined M3 and boasts a Quattro four-wheel drive system too, available with a choice of both six-speed manual and seven-speed dsg derivative gearboxes.

In addition to four-wheel drive, it will also boast Audi’s new active rear differential – as used by the latest S4 – which helps distribute torque to different wheels, aiding agility and traction.

2011 Mercedes CLS AMG Nurburgring

This morning as I was driving to the ring I spotted the 2011 Mercedes CLS AMG driving in an aggressive manner overtaking traffic on the road to the ring.

I wanted to get a few snaps of the car so my partner Jane pulled the camera out and attempted to get some shots as the driver tried to evade being snapped.

The current CLS 63 AMG shares its engine with the previous-generation E 63 AMG 378kW (514hp) from a 6.3-litre V8 installed and the new amg should be making making 387kW (527hp). The rear wheels should be Mercedes Speedshift MCT 7-speed gearbox.

All i can say is the current testcar and driver tried to evade the pursuit and we still managed to get some very average pictures, So they obviously need to tune the powerplant a little before the release in 2011.
